Sun Microsystems | Sunrise & Solaris Launch

at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale, AZ

With the release of the new operating system Solaris, Sun Microsystems wanted to really put on a big show for their 2000+ sales and marketing associates at their annual Sunrise meeting. The production needed be as exciting, progressive and brilliant as the operating system that they had worked so hard to develop. After careful consideration, American Audio Visual Center was chosen to produce such an event.

Working under Sun’s directives, the graphics, scenic, video, and lighting all came together to deliver their message with clarity and creativity.

A geometric set was designed and influenced by the Mensa game of Tangrams, illustrating the key architecture elements on which Solaris was based. A 36’x12’ blended widescreen was surrounded by an internally illuminated frame. Working with a bright and colorful palette, graphics and lighting were critical. Collaborating with Sun executives and marketing professionals every step of the way, AAVC became an invaluable part of the team.

Several challenges faced our team; from color matching 14 projectors and providing the extreme saturations and wide color space required, to the need for a custom engineered microwave camera system. Everyone on the team played a critical role.

Energy was high, technology was current, and attendees were motivated and excited. Even though changes were frequent and timelines shifted, our client never heard the word "no".
